Hershey’s Camp Bondfire: #Smores Giveaway | Ends 8/7

WRITTEN BY DENA

S’mores have been a summer tradition since 1927, and now there is a new reason to enjoy the summertime staple with Camp Bondfire – an interactive Facebook application on the Hershey’s Facebook page where you can discover new ways to “bond” around the campfire through weekly tips, stories and activities from influential mom bloggers.
Now through September 7, Camp Bondfire will offer weekly tips, stories and activities focused on a variety of themes and encourage fans to join the fun by registering to be a “Camper of the Week” for a chance to win outdoor prizes like a backyard fire pit. Campers can also capture their own memories and share their photos in the Fireside Memory Book at Camp Bondfire.

Campers are invited to visit Camp Bondfire often during the summer for inspiring tips and activities around the weekly themes including:
First Fire of S’mores Season™ (Week of June 3)
Fire it up, Dad!™ (Week of June 10)
Red, White & S’mores™ (Week of July 1)
National S’mores Day™ (Week of August 5)
Back to School Bondfire™ (Week of August 12)
We love S’mores around here! I also try to have the makings on hand so when we grill we can have a desert. But recently I have been making them in the microwave. Granted they don’t taste quite as good as when they are hot off the grill but they fill that chocolately crunchy gooeyness that you sometimes crave! I only put the grahams, chocolate and marshmallow in the microwave for about 8-10 seconds. The marshmallow will puff up then melt the chocolate when squished together. Yummy!

S’mores Giveaway
1 Winner Will Receive 1 package of Honey Maid Graham Crackers, 1 package of Jet-Puffed Marshmallows and 1 package of Hershey’s Milk Chocolate! See Rafflecopter for Entry Details. Open to U.S. You must be 18 years old to enter to win. Ends 8/7

Save Money on Food with Your Grocery Budget Toolbox – Review and Giveaway

By Jennifer

As a family of 6 that strives to eat a whole foods diet, our grocery bill is usually quite high. We spend around $800-$1000 a month on food. Most of what I buy is organic and I try to buy mainly pastured animal products. All of that can certainly add up to receipt shock at the checkout line. So when I was approached about reviewing Your Grocery Budget Toolbox e-book, I gladly agreed, hoping to learn some smart grocery store tips which would allow me to spend less on our food.

Your Grocery Budget Toolbox was written by Anne Simpson, the blogger behind Quick and Easy Cheap and Healthy (soon to be revamped into Authentic Simplicity). I have long enjoyed her posts as she seems to have a food philosophy similar to mine – whole and unprocessed foods as close to the way God intended as possible.

Who is this book for?

People with a limited amount to spend on foods
People who have problems staying within their food budget
People who want to incorporate more healthy foods into their diet without spending a fortune.
Your Grocery Budget Toolbox was a fairly quick read for its size. I thought the information was well presented and organized. I have a lot of money saving blogs in my reader, but even still there was a lot of new-to-me information in the book.

Information that Your Grocery Budget Toolbox includes

Setting up and sticking to a food budget
Creating a price book
Other resources for healthy foods besides the supermarket
Once a month grocery shopping
Setting price caps
Using coupons
Make your own recipes
Gardening as a way of extending your budget
Preserving food
Tips for using it up rather than throwing it out
Saving in the digital age
Printables for setting up a budget, creating a price book, meal planning, and more
The thing that impressed me the most about this book was that it centered around ways to afford healthy foods. We have all seen the extreme couponing shows and heard stories of people getting hundreds of dollars worth of groceries for next to nothing. If you look closely at what these people are purchasing though, it is nearly always processed, unhealthy foods. I don’t know about you, but this is not the type of food I want to serve my family.

One of my fears before starting to read this book was that it would focus entirely on couponing. I was very pleased that this was not the case. Couponing is certainly mentioned, but it is not the entire focus. Couponing is just not my thing. With the types of foods I buy, I just haven’t found it to be a worthwhile expenditure of my time. I have to say though, I am definitely going to check out some of Anne’s sources for coupons for healthier foods. Maybe I will change my mind

While couponing may not be for me, there are quite a lot of Anne’s suggestions that I do want to implement – for example making a price book and giving once a month shopping a try. I have read about price books in the past, but never thought they would be worth my time. After reading Anne’s information on creating a price book, I am inspired to create my own. I am blessed with an abundance of stores in this area that sell organics and natural food. However, I generally stick with my Kroger Marketplace, because it is right up the road. It will be interesting to see how much I can save by comparing prices at Trader Joes and local bulk food and health food shops.

I found Your Grocery Budget Toolbox to be very encouraging. There was nothing in there that I couldn’t put into practice. Anne encourages her readers to do the best within their means. If you can’t afford everything now, do the best you can. A little in terms of organics and humanely raised animals is better than none at all. It can be discouraging to realize how expensive whole foods are when you are first switching over to a healthier diet. I thought Anne’s approach was exactly what most people need to keep from getting overwhelmed.

Your Grocery Budget Toolbox was chock-full of information, tips, and ideas to help you save money. I found myself taking lots of notes as I read – things I want to put into practice or tips I want to remember. All-in-all, it’s 156 pages of great advice for anyone who wants, or needs, to cut down on the amount they spend on food. This book is well worth the small cost if you are serious about saving money at the grocery store.

If you would like your own copy of the book, you can purchase it directly from Anne’s website – Your Grocery Budget Toolbox. It is available in Kindle or Nook format. You can also get it in a PDF. At just $4.99, it’s a great bargain!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days – Giveaway! (ends 8/6/12)

BY KIMBERLY

My husband and I LOVE Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I think more so than our kids do. LOL! It all started years ago when my daughter brought home the original book from the school’s book fair. She loved the book and begged me to get her the next one in the series. Our son, who is pretty much a non-reader, also read the book and loved it. Our of curiosity my husband read the book too and he loved it. Since then my family has read all the books. Personally I haven’t read the books but I’ve seen both of the movies and loved them. My husband and I are actually excited about the new movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, which comes to theaters on August 3, 2012.
I hope they are able to make all of the books into movies. Judging by how grown up the kids are starting to look I worry that it might not be possible. The actor who plays Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) looks a bit different then he did from the last film. Thankfully Rowley (Robert Capron) is still adorable.
Check out this trailer for the film. If you are reading this via e-mail you can find the trailer here, http://bit.ly/LL0al5.

Here is a brief description of the new movie.
During his summer vacation, “Wimpy Kid” Greg Heffley, the hero of the phenomenally successful book series, hatches a plan to pretend he has a job at a ritzy country club – which fails to keep him away from the season’s dog days, including embarrassing mishaps at a public pool and a camping trip that goes horribly wrong.
I cannot wait to see this movie. The last film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules was actually funnier than the original film. I am hopeful that this movie will be even funnier.
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are written by Jeff Kinney. Book number 7 will be released this November. It’s entitled Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel. Will Greg find true love, or will Rowley beat him to it?
According to the official Wimpy Kid website, www.WimpyKid.com, Dog Days is a combination of both of his books, Dog Days and The Last Straw.
Also on the website you can watch the trailer for the film as well as grab some FREE downloads. You can also create your own Wimpy Kid character from the movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid at Wimp Yourself.
Make sure to ‘”like” Diary of a Wimpy Kid on Facebook and Follow @WimpyKidMovie on Twitter #WimpyKidDogDays.

Glamour Girl Reviews - Carmex Giveaway

Hello! I am back with another Carmex review. Since, I am a member of the Carmex Blog Squad I always get sent any new or upcoming products to test out, and I love it because Carmex makes really good products. They also always send me really cute kits to try out and to send to my lucky readers.

Anyway, this time was no different. They sent me a very neat kit full of Carmex goodies and it came with the new Pomegranate flavor lip balm stick.

The kit came with a beach bag and six flavors of lip balms! The flavors include original, cherry, strawberry, vanilla, lime twist, and pomegranate. Which I think is enough lip balm to last me for the next few years!

These lip balms are very popular, but if you have never tried them they are ultra moisturizing. They go on very easily and smoothly. I really like that they are made with SPF 15 water resistant sunscreen. They are the perfect lip balm for the beach and this summer heat. It's like putting sun block on your lips, so you know that the skin on your lips are being protected from the sun's harmful rays.

Speaking of the beach, I finally got to go to the beach today! I haven't been able to go yet all summer. So, I was super excited to go today and I was so thankful that Carmex sent me this lovely kit. I used the Lime Twist lip balm on my lips and I used the handy beach bag as well. I loved the little zippered bag that comes attached to the beach bag, I was able to keep my cell phone and headphones protected from the sand in there. The bag was plenty big enough to keep everything I wanted to bring, including my beach towel, sunglasses, hat, water bottle, clothes, flip flops, and sun lotions.

DVD Review: “The Smurfs and the Magic Flute” (& Giveaway Ends 8/5)

BY CHER

The Smurfs and the Magic Flute
Released: August 14, 2012
Studio: Shout! Factory
Running Time: 71 minutes
ABOUT:
A magical flute is just what Court Jester Peewit needs to play delightful tunes that make everyone in the kingdom dance – until the dancing turns dangerous. Sir Johan tries in vain to recover the musical instrument, but a thief named McCreep beats him to it, intending to use the flute to steal gold from the King’s subjects. It’s the Smurfs-to-the-rescue when Papa Smurf devises a plan to create a second magical flute, and Peewit and Sir Johan go on a great adventure to find McCreep, win the musical duel and save the kingdom!
MY THOUGHTS:
I loved the Smurfs when I was younger and I love how they are bringing them back to life on DVD! We actually watched this movie as a family and my boys thought the Smurfs were so funny! I will say they were a little anxious and disappointed that the Smurfs didn’t appear until after 30 minutes, but when they did it was smurfing-fun! If you are looking for a strictly – Smurf movie then this may not be the right one since it is only half-Smurfs (and I don’t remember some of the popular Smurf characters like Smurfette and Gargamuel being in it either) but it is a classic cartoon movie and entertaining in itself. We will be watching this again!
BUY IT: You can buy “The Smurfs and the Magic Flute” wherever DVDs are sold or check it out online for $14.93.
WIN IT: (1) US winner will receive the DVD “The Smurfs and the Magic Flute”
